God’s Word includes many scriptures with references to light. Genesis 1:1-4 tells us how light began. "… God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.” Can you imagine if you had been an eyewitness to God’s command for light to appear upon the earth – to literally have watched the depth of darkness simply evaporate?

As Jesus preached and interacted with people, He told them that He was the Light of the world walking among them (John 9:5b). He possessed a holy radiance that drew many to accept Him as Savior. In John 12:35b-36a, He said, “The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light.” Jesus still longs for people in our day to receive eternal life and possess God’s Sonlight. This kind of illuminating light causes the deepest spiritual darkness to evaporate! Even the sinner who believes he or she has slipped too far into the abyss of sin can still be rescued by our loving, forgiving Savior. With this truth, why don’t more people run to God to empty their lives of such despair? The answer is given by Jesus in John 3:19. “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” Jesus goes on to explain that a person will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. A person in this condition must stop trying to hide from God and start allowing God’s light to uncover the sin problem. Then, true repentance can occur. Maurice Freehill penned the question, “Who is more foolish, the child afraid of the dark or the man afraid of the light?”

God’s light is certainly worth investigating, but it is far better to possess it in our lives! We can knock fear off its feet with bullets of God-filled faith! Even Christians can allow clouds to move in and block their own view of God’s radiance. Is there anything coming between you and God today? Do not settle for a flashlight or lamplight lifestyle of faith. Declare that you will be a true follower of His light 100%! The possession of God’s Sonlight means it is worth defending, fighting for, and believing in all the time. Remember, the sparkle of this world is sure to fade, dissolve, and vanish, but God’s light is eternal! Let’s keep shining His light!
