What words are like music to your ears and bring a song of joy to your heart? Even more importantly, what do you suppose are some of God’s favorite words? I’m convinced that one of them is the word, ‘yes.’ This short, little word is loaded with faith, and demonstrates that God has full authority in our lives. It means we want His will more than our own. It signifies that we trust God with all the unknowns. He sees when our spoken ‘yes’ becomes a step and act of faith.  Hebrews 11:1 says it in this way. “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” The faithful ‘yes’ surpasses our human eyesight!

Who can forget the faithful ‘yes’ of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to God, and their ‘no’ to King Nebuchadnezzar’s orders to serve and worship false gods? When asked to follow the king’s ruling on false worship, Daniel 3:16-18 tells us these men full of faith said these words: “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Obviously, the king was furious with their response – so much so that he ordered the furnace heated up seven times hotter than usual. Then, he indeed had them thrown into the fiery furnace! When not even a hair on their heads was singed nor their robes scorched, the king knew something miraculous had happened. He began to speak words he never expected to say. Daniel 3:28-29 records it. “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God …, for no other god can save in this way.”

You and I may never be thrown into a fiery furnace, but when we live the life that says ‘yes’ to God, our faith and trust in Him grows deeper and stronger. Even when there are many missing pieces from our point of view, we can rest assured that God knows right where every piece is and where it belongs! God calls us to a daily walk with Him. He is there to cheer us on when we take steps of faith. Get into the habit of answering God with a definite ‘yes.’ In the process, like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you may hear others who are watching you echo the same words of King Nebuchadnezzar, “No other god can save in this way!”
